Step 1: Use Bluehost Web Hosting

Sign up for your own Bluehost web hosting account

Do not wait until you have the perfect domain name, business idea, product, or everything mapped out for you.  Get your hosting account and start experimenting right away.
I personally signed up with Bluehost without having decided on my first niche topic.  One bonus with Bluehost is they give me a free domain name registration for as long as I am a customer.  To remove the temptation to think for too long about what my first URL would be, I took my own name as my free domain and made it my personal site.  I just wanted to get this step behind me and to start learning website design by doing website design.

Why I decided to use Bluehost

I definitely took my time researching web hosting companies on review sites, YouTube videos, getting recommendations from blogs & podcasts of my gurus, and finally asking friends and family.  The comparison made was based on price, reliability, customer support, ease of use, limits to the account, and quality of built in tools.
Is still believe that I made the best possible decision.

Bluehost’s current beginner shared hosing package (copied and pasted from their website):

  • Unlimited Domain Hosting
  • Unlimited GB Hosting Space
  • Unlimited GB File Transfer
  • Unlimited E-mail Accounts
  • Free Domain
  • Free Site Builder w/ templates
  • Secure Shell, SSL, FTP, Stats
  • CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL
  • $75 Free Google Credit
  • 99.9% Network Uptime Guarantee

That’s good enough for me.

Most importantly they are WordPress ready

Actually, most importantly, they have WordPress ready and waiting to install immediately to your site using their C-Panel (Control Panel).
Without having seen an instruction video, I had purchased my hosting package and domain, installed WordPress using Bluehost’s C-Panel, and was logged into the administration dashboard of my site and searching for themes in under 30min.
(Actually Pat Flynn has a video showing how he did this in under 4 minutes – but he’s done one or two of these before).

Unlimited Domains

Personally I really like the unlimited domain hosting feature.
Right now I have four different domains hosted here, and I’m sure there will be more.
If one site becomes super popular, then a dedicated server will be required.  This is NOT something you have to worry about now or in the near future; a shared host such as this will work for you!
Finally, I will probably always have this hosting account because it is a great place to start and build any new website.

The price is comparable to the beginner package at any quality web host.
Budget web hosts are not something I wanted to mess around with and not something that I would recommend at all.  Some didn’t seem to have the awesome c-panel style controls and I don’t remember them all having the WordPress script ready to instantly install.

Remember, this is step 1.  Do not wait.  Get your hosting, take your free domain name, install WordPress, and experiment!
